I’ve been thinking a lot about book covers recently, considering how important they are, as the doors that open to welcome readers into our books. They can encourage and intrigue, tease a reader, or maybe put them off completely. Most books feel good to handle, whatever the finish of the cover; matt or gloss; paper, board, fabric or leather. The choice of colour can make a huge difference too to the effect a cover gives and as a book stands on a shelf the spine becomes important too. A cover can be a beautiful works of art in its own right, a wonderful piece of graphic design or a perfectly displayed photograph.
