Testimonials and reviews

To Be Frank- an entertaining family drama. This is a family saga, with a bit of social history woven in to the narrative as it stretches back to 1940. There are twists and turns to keep the plot moving but, ultimately, the charm of the book is in the main characters and their relationships: I found myself racing to the end to discover how their stories unfolded. The landscapes of East Anglia feature throughout the story and are almost a character in themselves, they are well painted and it made me want to visit the main locations. To Be Frank is an easy read but nonetheless absorbing and rFrank’s story is well worth following. Jeanne, (Yorkshire)

“I’ve just finished reading Lawn House Blues and it was a cracking good read: well done Philippa Hawley. I can’t even begin the imagine the hours that went into creating it but I confess that I read it in double quick time because I was hooked! So, thank you for keeping me well entertained and interested from start to finish.” J.H. (Leeds)

Lawn House Blues was really good read … it was my late night and early morning ‘treat.” J.C. (Wivenhoe)

Lawn House Blues is a story centred on a house hiding secrets and a dark family history. While the house is central to the book, the plot revolves around its occupants, and their friends and associates, a group of characters who are well-drawn and believable. The action moves swiftly, with current events neatly interspersed with flash-backs to years past. The reader is drawn along, eager to continue reading to find out what happens next – and often the unexpected is what happens next. As I started the first few pages, I was unsure if this was ‘my type’ of book. But I’m pleased to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was impressed with the professionalism of the book’s content and presentation. Lawn House Blues deserves a wide readership. Congratulations Philippa on a top-class effort.” T.O. (Clacton-on-Sea)

” 5 out of 5 stars. Lawn House Blues is a classic “why-done-it”, written with intricate detail, the author ensures the reader is kept wondering about what sort of psychology drives a person to hurt a baby (which isn’t a spoiler as it happens early on!)” R.C. (facebook and Amazon)
